This is amazing as always Carly. You made me laugh so hard with this: "which is basically the corporate equivalent of listing your bags on Poshmark to make rent". I'll say it again - you need to write a book!
Love this issue Carly! I'm in the process of moving over from beehiiv LOL. Made the decision to go beehiiv instead of substack, but I'm already loving the vibes here.
Nordstrom going private is a genius move. I worked retail there before and it definitely allows the "family" control and not having shareholders and BOD breathing down there neck and on the public chopping block.
Roblox Fenty is genius. Just wrote about it last week and then did a deep dive into Met Gala because Fashion Tech Nerds unite. The Shopify integration to roblox and the fact that they create a limited specifically for Roblox was the key to this genius marketing strategy. Fashion gaming is for sure the future and excited to see more brands have smarter strategy.
Did not know about Parke, but will now check them out! Very cool. Also I totally wrote the LONGEST comment here.
love that you’re here instead of beehiiv, substack is for the yappers!
curious to see what brands exactly will end up on roblox as I feel this may change the demo (ie heavy emphasis on younger skewing brands) and branding efforts of some potential partners!
Confession: I too waited in line for the Parke pop up in soho on Friday. I have so many thoughts - especially with the assortment on offer and the visual merchandising. Your hot take is spot on.
Every single GenZer walked out with a tote filled with 1 out of the 6 basic denim styles on offer. I was also flabbergasted by the $190 - $230 price points. However, after reading the West Village article in NYMag last week, none of this is surprising and it’s all starting to make sense…
Ok but can we also talk about Saks licensing their name to COSTCO?!?! I knew they were desperate but....yikes.
omg 😭 i just read about this! even if they somehow make it out of this mess, the brand damage will be so long term
100% - the damage has been done. They've just lost all trust from the rest of the industry at this point, I really don't see how they bounce back...
